Mission Secondary School
Leadership 10 – 12
If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and
become more, you are a leader.
Purpose
Welcome
to the MSS Leadership class. This class is designed to give students the
opportunity to develop their individual and collective sense of social
responsibility through the acquisition and application of leadership skills and
theory. Students will build and build upon skills in the areas of self-image,
goal setting, decision making, public relations, conflict resolution and an
understanding of various leadership skills. This course will allow students the
opportunity to put into practice and reflect upon the leadership qualities that
they discuss and develop through the classroom activities.
Rationale
The development of leadership
qualities in the youth of today is crucial; the ability to offer young people
the opportunity to develop these leadership qualities is important as this
generation prepares to leave school and assume their role in our society.
Regardless of your chosen profession employers will search out those employees
who exhibit strong leadership qualities and skills (communication, listening,
empathy, goal setting, organization, presentation, mediation). The development
of these skills will hopefully empower students to be proactive, productive and
satisfied members of society.
